Installation at the Sculpture Park in downtown St. Louis
Hey hey hey!
So, once again I have stayed away from this blog for an extended period of time with no good excuse. Well…I have been up to quite a lot of random things as of late.
My brother had a baby in November! I’m an aunt. My niece is beautiful and adorable and produces a staggering number of dirty diapers in one day. She’s amazing.
Radiohead concert! I’m still excited about it…even though I went to it back in March! The concert was in St. Louis, MO at the Scottrade Center. Hands down, it was the best concert that I have ever been to. Thom Yorke has so much energy and charisma. Radiohead is so in touch with its fans; you could feel the love radiating from the stage and soaking into your skin.
I went with two friends, and instead of spending da big bucks on a hotel…we couch surfed. And it was AWESOME! Couch surfing is this network of individuals around the world who essentially offer up their couch to adventurous travelers. We stayed with this really cool guy who was so chill; he gave us a key to his place and told us to come and go as we pleased. It was amazing. oh AND IT WAS FREE. Yeah, there’s no charge. However, to show your appreciation, I would recommend doing something nice for your host like doing their dishes, cleaning up, maybe buying them dinner, or even purchasing a pack of the finest toilet paper the local grocery store has to offer.
Here’s the link for the site: http://www.couchsurfing.org/
While we were in St. Louis, we visited this amazing museum dully called the “City Museum” (http://www.citymuseum.org/site/) where all of the displays are interactive mazes that you can crawl into and navigate. Every opening or crevice is something that you can physically crawl into and get sucked into this crazy network of tunnels and passages. Don’t worry, you won’t get stuck or lost. If you just keep going, all the tunnels spit you out somewhere super cool. There was one tunnel that led us to a ten story slide (YEAH TEN STORIES. HOLLAA!), and sliding down that monster was so freaking scary and exciting at the same time. There’s also an old plane and a school bus at the top of the building that you have to crawl through the tunnels to get to. If you end up going to the City Museum, go with lots of time on your hands because you will find yourself exploring for hours and hours.
Also, they had this gigantic fish tank that was grimy and nasty and filled to the brim with catfish, turtles and all manner of fresh water specimen, and it was low to the ground. Basically you could reach into the water and touch whatever creatures were lazily floating around in there. We were highly encouraged to stick our fingers into that slimy water and pet the catfish. Of course, I caved, poked one of the catfish, and still to this day I am sanitizing my right pointer finger. I’m afraid it will never be the same again. Every trip needs a horror story, right?
Anyway, it was a really cool trip. Full of random adventures and lots of late nights. Well we were only there for two nights..so just two late nights not lots…
I’m going to Detroit this week to visit one of my bffs from college. Be back next week with some more harrowing tales from my trip.
Au Revoir, amigos! (French + Spanish = Franish?)
So, it’s been a while since I posted anything on here. I think over a year to be exact. Ehh how embarrassing!
Anyway, a lot has changed since I last posted on here like a decade ago. I did go to India. And yes those rolls and rolls of compressed toilet paper came in very handy. So worth it if you are going to a country where they don’t believe in toilet paper…or toilets…
I got back from India about two and a half months later and sat at home. I was unemployed, miserable, and BORED TO DEATH. I started watching Dr. Phil and Oprah. I couldn’t believe it. I used to make fun of my friend for watching that kind of stuff and there I was curled up in a ball on the couch, snacking on wheat thins and carefully absorbing every piece of advice Dr. Phil and Oprah could give me. And suddenly one day it hit me. I needed to uncurl myself, put down the box of wheat thins, turn off the TV and be proactive about finding a job.
Easier said than done.
I applied to what felt like over a hundred places including several stores at the mall, Whole Foods, and the local bakery. NO ONE WOULD HIRE ME. Then one day as I was watching TV (yes, I regressed a little bit but I thought I deserved a break!) I saw an add for www.monster.com and thought to myself, “What do I have to lose? These commercials are ridiculous, but at least it’s a way to put myself out there!”
So, I posted my resume on Monster. About two months later (yes two months. miracles don’t happen over night, yo), I got a phone call from an investment bank and they wanted me to come in for an interview. A grand total of two interviews later and BAM! I was hired! I am now working in the financial services industry.
I graduated from college with a degree in Political Science and History. Not in a million years did I think I would work for a bank.
Honestly, I don’t think I will stay in the financial services industry but at least I got my foot in the door.
I guess what I’m trying to say is stay positive, persistent, and take chances.
Wow, I didn’t expect my first post in a long time to be quite so cheesy. Don’t worry, my next one will be more exciting.
Peace out, space cadets!

I’m listening to some Wilco to keep me sane while I compress rolls and rolls of toilet paper. Check it out!
I’m leaving for India on Wednesday and doing LOTS of packing. Well, mostly I’m helping my parents pack their things. At the moment, I am removing toilet paper from their cardboard rolls and compressing them into ziploc bags to save space. It’s incredibly dull. Anyway, I’m pretty stoked about India this time around mostly because my parents and I are going to New Delhi and Agra to see some historical sites.
I’ve never had a blog before. My friend convinced me to do it…and I have to admit I think it’s kind of cool. I’m listening to “I know you are but what am I?” by Mogwai. The song has awesome instrumentals.
Mogwai is post-rock band from Glasgow, Scotland formed in 1995.
I’ll probably have more interesting things to say after I’m done typing 25 pages worth of papers due tomorrow!
yikes…
